Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that Edwin S. Monuki, MD, PhD has been named as the Warren L. Bostick Chair of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UC Irvine Health.

Dr. Monuki has been with UC Irvine Health since 2001, both as an associate professor and as a staff neuropathologist at UC Irvine Medical Center. He also runs a research laboratory in the Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center, focusing on early forebrain and stem cell development, as well as a recently-patented stem cell technology with the potential for treating a wide variety of brain disorders.

Following his Anatomic Pathology residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital, he did his Neuropathology fellowship at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Children's Hospital Boston. Dr. Monuki then became an attending neuropathologist at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children's Hospital Boston, while also carrying out research as a Howard Hughes Postdoctoral Fellow at the Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center in Boston, where he studied cerebral cortex development.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Monuki on this appointment

Sincerely,
